Recently, I photographed a wonderful older couple at Ella Bailey Park in Magnolia, and it reminded me just how underrated this park is. While this particular session celebrated decades of marriage, Ella Bailey Park is just as beautiful for family photos, maternity sessions, engagement photos, or simply updating portraits with the people you love.

Why I Love Ella Bailey Park
Located in the heart of Magnolia, Ella Bailey Park offers one of the most beautiful panoramic views in Seattle. From the overlook, you can see downtown Seattle, Elliott Bay, the Space Needle, and, on clear days, even Mount Rainier.
One of my favorite things about photographing here is how peaceful it feels. Even though you're only minutes from downtown Seattle, the park feels tucked away from the city's busier tourist destinations.
The combination of open grassy fields, mature trees, and sweeping skyline views gives us a wonderful variety of backdrops without ever needing to leave the park. Whether we're creating candid moments or more classic portraits, every direction offers something beautiful.
The Kerry Park View Without the Crowds
If you've always loved the iconic views from Kerry Park but don't love waiting in line with dozens of other visitors, Ella Bailey Park is the perfect alternative.
It offers a very similar panoramic view of Seattle's skyline while feeling much more private and relaxed.
Tucked behind Magnolia Elementary School in a quiet residential neighborhood, Ella Bailey Park is one of those places that many visitors simply drive past without ever realizing it's there. That means fewer people in the background of your photos and a much more enjoyable experience during your session.

One of the reasons I recommend Ella Bailey Park so often is the variety it offers within a relatively small space.

On clear evenings, you may even be lucky enough to see Mount Rainier rising behind the city skyline.
Weekday evenings are typically quieter than weekends and are my favorite time to photograph sessions here.

There is plenty of free street parking throughout the surrounding neighborhood, and the park is just a short walk from your car. After our time at Ella Bailey Park, we headed back to Bob and Mardi’s home for a few more photos in a quieter, more natural setting.
I loved the contrast between the sweeping Seattle views at the park and the intimate feeling of photographing them in a space that is part of their everyday life. At home, the session felt especially relaxed and personal, giving us the chance to create images that felt less posed and more like a glimpse into their life together.
