Do You Need a Photography Permit at Suzzallo Library?
In my experience photographing couples at Suzzallo Library, I've never been asked to show a photography permit or had any issues during a regular couples session. I've also personally checked with library staff, who told me that couples photography was allowed without a permit as long as we remained quiet and respectful of others using the space.
However, Suzzallo Library is an active university library, and photography policies can vary depending on the type of session and location. Staged bridal, wedding, and engagement photography is restricted in the Reading Room, and commercial photography may require additional approval.

Can You Take Engagement Photos Inside Suzzallo Library?
Suzzallo Library is famous for its beautiful interiors, particularly its historic Reading Room. However, the University of Washington does not permit staged wedding, bridal, or engagement photography in the Reading Room.
For other areas of the library, photography must follow UW Libraries guidelines and staff instructions. Keeping noise to a minimum, avoiding disruption to students, and respecting the space are especially important.

Where to Park for a Suzzallo Library Photoshoot?
If you're driving to the University of Washington for your photoshoot, I recommend using an official visitor parking garage rather than trying to find street parking near the library.
Central Plaza Garage: Approximately 3–5 Minutes Walking
Central Plaza Garage is my top recommendation because it's located directly beneath Red Square, just a short walk from Suzzallo Library.
It's particularly convenient if you're wearing a long dress, carrying accessories, or want to avoid walking too far before your session.
Padelford Parking Garage: Approximately 8–12 Minutes Walking
Padelford Parking Garage is another visitor parking option on the eastern side of the University of Washington campus.
The walk to Suzzallo Library takes approximately 8–12 minutes, depending on your route and walking pace. Keep in mind that some campus paths include stairs or elevation changes.
